About The Owner

Norman Mathews

HMS Service Co. Inc. is owned and operated by Mr. Norman Mathews.

HMS Service Company has been in business for 60 years now. The company started in 1953 as two separated businesses, HMS Diesel Truck Parts and Mathews Garage. HMS (Hannon, Mathews, & Spotswood) originally built brush shredding machines. In 1970 Norman bought out the company and made HMS and Mathews Garage as one. Five years later they ceased building the brush shredding machines and began to sell strictly truck and equipment parts. HMS also serviced and repaired transmissions, and engines. From mid-90's to now we sell parts but do no services or repair work on trucks or trailers. We do work on power units.

Mr. Mathews has a passion for antique cars. He has at least 20 completed (registered) cars that he has restored back to their original condition. No modifications have or will be made. The cars range in year from 1915 to 1937. Norman has a large variety of makes and models. His current projects include a 1933 Air-Cooled Franklin, 1926 Peter Pierce fire truck, and a 1928 Chrysler. All work is done on premises. Some parts from older cars are available. Each month Mr. Mathews attends car shows in which he has 3 trailers, holding 4 cars on each, which he takes with him.

Norman has been an active member of the community and the City of Davenport has presented him with a plaque that reads, "In grateful appreciation of your dedication and service to the City of Davenport, the Davenport City Commission hereby declares July 30, 2011 as "Norman Mathews Day."
